Igor Stravinsky

Igor was so much fun to draw, he has such an interesting face as well as a very interesting life. He was a Internationaly known Russian composer, pianist, and conductor, the man was truely inspirational. Perhaps one of my favorite paintings from this Summer, it was definitely out of my comfort zone. I guess thats why, it was so exciting in doing this one!
Jose Marti the Cuban!!!

Well, being in Miami you are bond to draw, paint or do something cuban so I picked good "ole' Jose Marti" a famous Cuban writer and poet.
My Aphrodite
h
This is one of those pieces to keep my mind sane and busy during the long Summer break. I wanted to go for more a cut out look with the skin, rather then the realistic look that I normally try for. Enjoy!!!

Ms. H. Bonham

Here is new piece I have been working on a couple of days, nothing fancy so I went towards a more graphic approach this time around. Rather then hitting on the oils and getting more into the details, but I'm pretty happy with this one.

The Studio

It's been awhile since my last post, I have been working on a painting for a magazine cover for the last 2 weeks. Would have finished sooner, but my computer crashed and I lost all my reference and had to reshoot all over again.
But now I'm in good shape, with a few more touches...I will finish this painting in a couple of days.
So I will give you a preview before its all finished.

"Pensimiento de un Vida"

Its been almost 3 weeks since my graduation from Ringling, I have been applying to get my Masters at U.M. and getting a job. But its been pretty hard, even to freelance has been a epic battle, but I wanted to get back into things before I got cold. So I decided to go more personal and do an illustration that was dear to me.

Everything on this piece was done reverse, I first did the baby and the girl with gouache then I painted the background with two opposing colors representing the pros and cons. Then some simple designs that represented it that went along with some text and other symbols done in FABER-CASTELL markers. Then a retouch of lighter color of gouache around the characters, then I painted the hair in a thin layer of Mars Black acrylic paint. It took me 2 nights from start to finish, I gave myself a deadline so it was pretty fun... Thanks for reading.

"Phoenix the Great"

The Great Joaquin Phoenix ....at his crazy times, since turned rap artist.

Done in traditional ink and later on put into photoshop, its my first in mixing both traditional and digital. I did it in a day's worth.

This is the first of two pieces that we did in Media Class, the first was done in watercolor. Not exactly my favorite media, its so unforgiving. I finally got what I wanted on the second try. But you soon get the hang of it, the subject matter is on "Dictators". I have been wanting to do this subject matter for awhile, I just love history and its politics. This guy is the Infamous Idi Amin of Uganda, he is the dictator that the actor,Forest Whitaker portrays in the film "King of Scotland".

My first Gouache piece, it was interesting and pretty, I might just wanna do it again. I went for more of a vector look, didn't feel like going into too much detail with the gouache, perhaps with oil. This dictator is Francisco Franco from Spain who was in power since 1939 till 1975.

Friday, March 13, 2009

I have been working on this piece for awhile, since last semester. Its been fun... I'm just trying to get the hang of Photoshop. I'm more of traditional type of guy and despise digital, but it does have its advantages.

I hope in the future, I can play with this media a little more and make real use of it. Latas

My "Sci-Fi Piece" for a Gallery Showing near Sarasota, Florida. Its meant for a Planetarium for the local children to entice them to the Arts and Sciences.

I call it "Space Worm", I did it in acrylic washes in about two nights worth.

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

Just one of those days I felt inspired in drawing whatever popped in mind. I haven't used the brown sketchbook in awhile, so I gave it a try. I'm still working on my "Thesis Pieces", which is giving is me no sleep. But I'm doing my best to finish it, before April 30th....so wish me luck!

Saturday, February 7, 2009

Another attempt to do an ink drawing, since most of my colleagues say I'm horrible at it, even though this is my second try. I really think I worked out a better composition and a more cohesive line work. But I rather not mention any names...John Suarez....oops.

The piece is "Hathor" an Egyptian Goddess of a mother type figure as well as a protector of women.

Its my Genie and Aladdin piece from my early Junior year, its one of those paintings I did for fun and say I did do Genie in a cave. I was just trying to have fun with some intense saturated cool and warm colors and have that high contrast. It was close to what I had in mind, What really inspired was some of N.C. Wyeth's compositions and colors. Hope it shows...

Its oil on canvas by 11 x 23

Finally a New Year, I hope to redeem myself with the past couple of works, with this "Ink Assignment" from Mr.Brandes.

Its a Self- Portrait that needs to deal with something about food. So I hope its easy to read...cause the last time I did an ink piece was in sophomore year and it was a challenge. I wasn't sure what technique to go for, but I know I wanted some graphic and decorative design element in it...

Sunday, December 7, 2008

This is one of those pieces that I just can't get right, I had so many version of this painting.

The assignment was to do a comic cover of "Metal Gear", I had this perfect image in my mind. But rarely do things go that way, so I jumped on cliche idea of a girl with a gun. "Fortune", I wish I could have gone a lot more dynamic. But this was my first time doing a comic, so like most first times. It never really goes very smoothly. *sigh* oh well lol...

Wednesday, December 3, 2008

Its my "Vanity" piece for the Oddity show thats in a couple of weeks, in Sarasota on Main Street.

I did it in acrylics and oil on masonite by 14 x 22.

Tuesday, November 25, 2008

Hey guys,

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, I have been so busy with Senior thesis, but I'm currently working on several paintings right now. So next time I post, it will defeintly make up for lost time.

This piece is from my sketchbook, I did it in watercolor, oil color pencils, and some markers. It was a Master copy from one of William Etty's paintings.

This is my Halloween piece, lil' Wayne with the red bape jacket and behind him. Are the some of the best rappers that have passed away like Tupac, Biggie Smalls, Big L, Eazy E just to name a few. I did it in oil, I had some problems with contrast and getting those bluish figures ghostly, but I think it came out pretty successful.

ILLUSTRATION

MAX MARIN

It’s rare that I feature illustrators whose main portfolio resides on a blog. But I’m making an exception for Max Marin today, partly because he’s still in school, and partly because his work is already very good. It’s nice to see work done in real oils too.

An oil piece for the "Tata Gala Show"... the original was nothing like this. I had changed it from a shadowing guy lurking behind her... grabbing her breast, but it wasn't working. And since I'm really into all sorts of cultures, I thought it was fitting to do the Mexican Aztecs...

Monday, October 27, 2008

I found a piece I did sophomore year, I completely forgot about it. I did it for Ms. French just before I was kicked out the class...lol. I did it in oils... for an AIDS assignment.

This is my Senior Portrait for the Ringling poster.

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

This is my latest piece, as you can see its got a very different style. Thanks to my wonderful peers, I tried to attempt a different look. It was alot more relaxing and kinda fun, but I would have liked to put more detail. Its an alright piece. 8)

Vladimir Putin

I really like this oil piece, but Thiel hated the bat wings, but the wings represent a fallen angel. Putin gave the the image of a renewed Russia, but then decided with his fellow comrades to invade his nearby neighbors. And the wings are from a Vulture Thiel! lol
I hate Chuckie, so I did something that was out of my comfort zone. I think I did it for illustration, but it might have been for that "Good, Bad and the Ugly" Show. But no one gave me a ride :(.... (cough cough Mr. Ofori) jk lol

My Soccer Club poster, but I didn't think it was good enough so I didn't post it. Oh well...
